This turned out to be caused by a puppy belonging to the previous occupants, who was evedently more attatched to his former home than his owners. Despite returning him to his owners (who lived 7 miles away)several times he kept returning. After some discussion we became the pround owners of a puppy named Scamp, and we are only slightly concerned that he may find his way home after our move next week.
